Questions about Grizzly Jointers?
I need to replace the Delta bench top jointer I bought when I couldn’t afford anything else. I have been talking to hobbyists as well as professional woodworkers and feel that an 8″ would be best suited to the projects that I have in mind. After looking at all of the various manufacturers I began to realize that most models were out of my budget range. Then I ran across the Grizzly G1018. At under $1000.00 I can swing the price tag but am concerned with the quality. I gave up buying “cheap” tools and don’t want to make an $800.00 mistake. Anyone with experience with this jointer or Grizzly stationary tools that can guide me would be appreciated.

The Grizzly 1182HW 6" jointer was rated #1 by Wood Mag in Sept 2001.....I've had mine for three years and it's been flawless. Alot of owners praise the new Grizzly G0500 8" for a bit more money, but I also hear good things about the G1018 (an older model). For a hobbyist or light commercial shop, the Griz machines should do well.
Another consideration is the Yorkcraft YC-8J 8" jointer for $649 plus s/h from Wilke Machinery. Another good value in 8" jointers. Wilke doesn't offer a flat shipping rate and it can get a little steep if you're a long way from York, PA....

Thanks for the info. I had overlooked the 4 knife model and I feel that it would really be the best one for me. I like the spiral cutter head, but it's just to much.
