I recently came across an unusual quick acting bench vise when clearing out my recently deceased father-in-law’s shop. I have never seen one like it and can not find any information about it on line. I have posted a photo (I think) on this web site. This vise is quick acting and locks up and releases with just a quarter turn of the handle. I have several more photos available. The only writing on it is on the front jaw and says HIGH SCHOOL on one side and BERKELEY CALIF on the other side. My wife’s grandfather was a teacher and administrator in the Berkeley California school system from about 1920 to sometime in the 50’s. I suspect my father-in law inherited the vice from him.
Any information about this vise would be greatly appreciated. I am interested in it’s value as I may need to sell it to help my wife settle her father’s estate.
Thanks,
Jim Randall

Vise
I don't think it has any great value beyond the intrinsic Family value. If it is the type of action that I think it is - a 1/4 turn back activates a release for full opening and closing without turning the handle. These are still made and available today -
Value without physically viewing item - $ 100.00 secondary market sale ?
There is also a "For Sale" link here to the left - if you want to post it ?

SA,
Thanks for the reply. The vice operates just as you said. Any idea who the manufacture is? I have searched the net every way I can think of with no results.
