I have a 1948 Red Star Multiplex RAS, originally purchased by my grandfather. It accepts a 12 inch blade, but will also take a 14 inch blade if I could find a blade guard. I also need to replace the top. I am hoping someone can help me out with possibly tracking down an acceptable blade gaurd and replacing the top.
Thanks

Red Star was taken over by Delta/Rockwell in 1950, so your chances of finding new parts are pretty close to zero, but you could call Delta just in case. I'd search for parts on e-bay and at owwm.com where you can learn a bit about the machine. Delta still makes a radial arm saw based on the Red Star design so the parts from the modern machine might, with some work, be made to fit yours.
What "top part" are you looking for? Several people at owwm bought theirs for under $100, so it might be easier to purchase a complete machine in working condition if you can locate it.

The wooden top is what I need. It has one now, but is not in good condition and is not the orignal top.
The "top" is basically a maintenance item that you can replace yourself. If you have the saw in a dry environment MDF is the most common material.
Some people use Bondo or the like to fill old curf lines in the top.
I made a top out of MDF to replace a top on an old dewalt. The most time consuming part was leveling the top so it would be square and level to the arm. Good luck and be careful with the saw maybe get a blade designed for a RAS I got rid of mine because the saw wanted to "climb" over the work. Anyway have fun.Troy
