Has anyone heard of Solid State Heating Corp. and their radiant ceiling heaters? http://www.sshcinc.com/BarNone2.htm
They are sort of expensive upfront but I am thinking in the long run you will save on the electricity bill. I found an article from Fine Woodworking Tools & Shop 2001 magazine where a guy used them in his shop. I like the idea of no moving parts, no maintenance and no noise and the fact that they are mounted on the ceiling where they are out of the way.
I would like to find someone that is using this type heater to hear what there opinion is about this heater.

I built a house in western Nebraska back in 1964 with a special heat cable stapled onto the rock lathe in the ceilings. Each room had a thermostat that the cable was connected to. After the wire was all stapled up, the ceiling was plastered and I think we waited some time for the plaster to dry before the heat could be turned on. Back in those days the electric was less than one cent per KW. Pretty reasonably priced heat. Very nice heat the only thing exposed was the thermostat. I later acquired an apartment house where the sheets of drywall were wired for electric heat. Same heat but each sheet had to be individually wired up. A cheaper heat source nowadays may be to use how water, heated by gas, wood or coal. Of course it must never freeze.
