Does anyone have a ventless natural gas heater in thier shop?
My shop is a two car garage that is insulated, but I still need something to take the bitter cold out. I saw one of these at Lowes, and was wondering where the exhaust goes if its ventless and runs on natural gas. The box said the heater was 99.9% efficient.
Thanks for your replies.

Ventless means just that......no exhaust vent. They are trying to convince you that there is no emissions from the unit to be concerned with.
Combustion still requires oxygen, so you will need to have a fresh air supply if you're in your garage for long hours. Sometimes, cracking a window or door will do the trick.
I installed a radiant tube heater in my shop which runs the entire length of the shop. Works great, but wasn't cheap.
BTU's are the key to chosing a proper heat source.

Ventless heaters - They are illegal in out town. We know why.
Dovetail,
I've had one for years. It is wall mounted 24 inches above the floor (code in our town for garages.) Because of that, your feet will get cold unless you have a cheap ceiling fan set on the winter mode to move the heat around. Works great. On the lowest thermostat setting, it keeps my shop at 54 degrees. I have a 1.5 car garage-size shop.
When I get in to work, I click the thermostat a notch and it gets a comfortable 60. It could easily bring the space to 80 if I wanted.
My shop is insulated but the garage door is not and it's your typical old fashioned leaky garage door. In short, I have make up air.
I would never use one of these unvented heaters in a living area and certainly not in a sleeping area. In my opinion, tough, it is a safe option in a semi-sealed environment like a garage.
If you are concerned, I believe they make a through-the-wall vented one, too?
