I am in need of quality rags for wiping/polishing finish. The last company I used has gone out of business! Where is the best place to buy a good quality, lint-free supply of cotton rags?
Thanks.

You can use paper towels. There are some sold at Home Depot that are good. Be sure to get them that do not have an embossed pattern.
I was surprised when reading up on wiping varnishes to see Mr. Jewitt recommend paper towels for application of stain and varnish. Was hesitant to try it, but then I found the "Kleenex brand Viva" paper towels at Safeway. They are wonderful -- smooth, no pattern to them at all, very soft and strong. forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I love how just as I'm getting ready to do something in my shop, I find a pertinent post about it in Knots...
FG- are those paper towels you use pretty much lint free?
Gretchen- I'm about to start padding on some shellac in the next few days (first time). It sure would be a ton easier to go with the paper towels. Were you thinking of those disposable blue shop towels on a roll? I wonder if I could use those for my rubber...
Thanks,
Kevin
Kevin, they seem to be lint-free, but as mentioned, I haven't tried them for finishing yet -- just discovered them last week. I'm using them in the kitchen, for housework, and I also used them to wipe down a painted sign after it dried. Didn't see any lint left on anything.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I have used them for wiping varnish. I haven't for shellac so I won't offer any advice on that. They are very lint free.Gretchen
