I’m making some raised panels with an ogee pattern. What is the standard (if there is such a thing) reveal for the panel from the top to where the ogee pattern begins? I’m guessing 1/8″. I’m using a whiteside bit with back cutter so the panel will be 1/4″ at the edge but noticed when making my first test cut I could vary the reveal quite easily and was wondering.

Bones,
It depends on the thickness of stock you are using. If you are making doors, your reveal will be determined by how thick the tongue is (which is determined by how wide the groove in the rails and stiles is). Otherwise, I usually make the reveal (and the tongue) half the thickness, no more. It's a balance of having enough thickness in the tongue for strength and enough material to resist any forces applied to the panel (moreso with box bottoms than doors).
Ok, I re-read your post and now understand that you are talking about the shoulder, not the entire profile. Do whatever pleases your eye. Personally, I'd omit the shoulder altogether and have the ogee flow right into the door.

Thanks for the reply. The stock is 3/4" thick. I had not considered just letting the ogee pattern flow over the top without a reveal. Interesting idea. I was married by a judge - I should have asked for a jury.George Burns
