Random pondering about hand-stitched rifflers
This is really just random pondering:
I am looking at rifflers, and there is a fair amount of writing on the advantage of hand-stitched (random) vs. machine-made rifflers and rasps. I am frugal, of course, so I am balking at the price difference.
My question is, why doesn’t some manufacturer make a “random” pattern based on hand-cut, and then machine-make surfaces (identical rifflers) from that? You don’t need every riffler to be different, just the surface to be somewhat random.

I have no specific riffler industry knowledge, but the general answer to these questions is money. Either they can't do it cheaper or the market isn't big enough to make a profit to justify the effort. That's my best guess.
