Rare Early Bailey sliding bevel guage?
I don’t collect tools other than to use but this may be something too valuable for me to keep. I got it at a junk sale so I know it isn’t a fake . Looking at it later, I noticed that it is marked L. Bailey’s Patent March 19, 1872.
It is about 6″ long, all metal and has a lever on the end to lock it. Is this worth anything? The handle has a fleur de lys at each end of the handle with a sort of checkering in the middle.
If it isn’t a collector peice, it goes into my tool box but I would hate to use it if it is actually a rare piece.
So, anyone got any info?

Hard to say. Bevels in general are pretty common. However, there seems to be at least one of these old all-metal Bailey's that is quite rare. Take a look at the links below:
