Just bought a truckload of hardwoods, Maple, Oak, Walnut, Mahogany, and Sassafras. The only problem is it is all 2″ or 3″ thick and I don’t have any means of resawing. Does anyone know of a place in or near Toledo, Ohio that would be able to resaw some of this for me. Some of it is unusually large, 16″x42″x3″ Mahogany. I would be willing to drive an hour or so. If not, anybody wanna buy some lumber…
Thanks,
Adam

Look in the yellow pages under Cabinet Makers and start calling. If they can't resaw in their shop, they would probably know some business who can. Expect to pay somewhere around $45-60 an hour for resawing work- depends on the overhead. Sometimes it is better to purchase a band saw and do it yourself if the quantities justify the cost.
tried that, none of the local shops know anyone with the capabilities, thought someone may know one further from Toledo.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Adam
Have you tried looking at saw mills in the area? Sometimes they will resaw for $1-2 per bf.
Some one with a portable band mill might be the answer. I'm told that the manufacturers of band mills will give you names of guys near you who bought them. You would probably take the wood the the band mill rather than move the mill to your location.

Adam, I live up north of you right about in the very center of Michigan just a few miles south of Central Michigan University I've taken lumber there before when it's been to wide for my planer or if I've needed to sand a table top or I've even had them do some resawing form me. If you have a University near by or even a High School that has a woodworking class you can check with them our local High School has a class during the week for a small fee you can join and use the equipment maybe you could work out some kind of deal if you could use the tools to resaw what you need maybe you could trade for some material they need. Well Adam I wish you all the best and I hope you find somone or somplace to do the resawing you need done and I hope my $0.02 worth maybe of some help. JIM
On their website, Woodmizer keeps a list of folks who own their portable bandsaw mills. You may be able to find someone near you... and keep in mind, even if the nearest person listed on their website is too far away, calling that person may give you the name of an unlisted person who's closer to you:
