Mlw13,
I tried something new the other day to clean up my cabinet clamps...maybe it would work for you. I scraped off the glue with an old chisel and then applied a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and mineral spirits (turps might have been better) and worked that with 000 steel wool. A quarter cup of each was plenty of product..good luck
I used the wire brush on my bench grinder, though it might chew up the teeth if it happened too often.

I use a X-ACTO knife.. Pops it right out!
The last time I had to clean up several, after a semester of abuse by students, I knocked off the easy clumps with a handled scraper; to remove the tenacious bits, I used a brass brush and scotchbrite pads after subjecting the clamp surface to the output of a clothing steamer with distilled water and vinegar in the reservoir.

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.
after a semester of abuse by students..
I would think part of their grade should be tool up-keep!
I genereally tap the glue with a hammer after fully dry, and because it is basically brittle, it just chips or falls right off.
