Thanks FG. Looks like I have one so I'll check further into it on my day off Friday. I bought mine in the Fraser Valley area of BC., Canada for those in my area.
There's that "peak horsepower" again! :-)

Thanks, just bought one in December, guess I'll have to go out in the shop and check. Bought the 893K package. This is the first I have heard about the recall.
"This is the first I have heard about the recall." Not surprising since it just happened on the 23rd. One of the WWAers saw it on yet another forum. Ain't these forums good?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-) Do unto others as you tell them they should do unto you....
Just checked this morning and mine is one of the recalls. Called PC and they will send me a prepaid lable to send it to Parma, OH which is the nearest repair center. A real pain. Needs to be boxed etc. They only furnish the label. So much for buying a good quality router. Have 4 Sears all over 25 years old with no problem.
I just called PC and asked if the tool has to be sent to the Factory Service Centers or can it be taken to any of the local Service Centers. They said the router motor can be taken to any of the Service Centers listed on their website that lists "Handheld Tools" in the list of their services. The difference for me is a convenient 15 mile local trip verses a 50 mile one to the Factory Service Center. Before you go to the trouble and expense of packaging and shipping, check the link I'm attaching to see if you can take care of things locally. I was told that there is no special paperwork etc., required but I'll take along a printed copy of the recall notice in case the Service Center hasn't heard of it yet.http://www.porter-cable.com/index.asp?e=257&c=1009092&eID=6087
The closest place is 60 miles away. I got their shipping labes and sent it in last Wednesday and got it back this Tuesday afternoon. Great service. It is a new motor unit.
I had one of the recall units as well - sent it to the Calgary Depot by post and got a new unit in about 5 days. Things go wrong sometimes with tools such as these since design flaws don't always show up right away, but as long as they look after the problem I guess they are servicing what they sell. I agree it's a bit of a pain......but then I was thinking what if it was a 500lb Jointer? those are the recalls or defects that scare me.
"Have 4 Sears all over 25 years old with no problem." Wonder if the new(er) ones are as good? I have one older one picked up at an auction, nice smooth runner. Two or three newer ones had to be tossed in the scrap heap.
Hope it isn't too much of a pain getting your PC fixed. :-(forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-) Do unto others as you tell them they should do unto you....
Just got a phone call from the Local Service Center. They said that they're having a problem getting the part/s needed for the fix (not available). Dewalt (the owners of PC) are going to send a new router to replace the one that I took in for repair. I should have it in about 5 days or so. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will be a complete router instead of just the motor, but somehow I doubt it. I predict that there will be sales featuring "Factory Reconditioned Routers" soon. ;-)
Thank you ! ! Mine's going in tomorrow.

I took my router in today. I had a fifteen minute wait behind a guy who was getting a replacement charger for B&D drill.
Then, they filled out info, and went to the back. I got a new motor in box. I have been toying with the idea of a bigger router for table, so this baby may not make it back to the table. Twenty minutes top.
I sent my motor to a service center about 50 miles from home by UPS ($7) two weeks ago on a Friday. It got there on Monday. By Friday of that week my new motor arrived by Federal Express. I could have taken it to a closer repair place, but they would have had to send it to the same service center anyway, making a longer wait.
