Folks,
I’m looking for a clear non-yellowing finish that’s durable enough for a coffee table top. In addition, it should be able to be wiped on (not sprayed) and rubbed out with pumice without leaving witness lines. Is it possible? Am I dreaming?
Thanks,
Denny

Yes - it is possible.
After trying many waterbased finishes, I have feel that "General Polycrylic" from Woodcraft is the best. I apply mine with a good synthetic brush from Jeff Jewetts's Homestead Finish supplies.
This stuff dries quickly, you can get 3 coats a day, and buffs out nicely. I use Abralon pads on my ROS. The result looks like a fine spray job.

Frosty,
Thanks, I'll give it a try. It's tempting to test several brands, but not at these prices...
Thanks,
Denny
I hear you. I must have tried a dozen brands, only to find brush strokes, bubbles, etc. etc. I was tempted to try and use them up on misc. projests but finally bit-the-bullet and tossed them all.Good Luck.FrostyDon't forget the good brush.
Padauker,
After having all the floors sanded in our weekend house, at the suggestion of the people who did the work I used Bona Mega water based poly. It's expensive but!!!With few exceptions I use it now on everything I build. 2 sets of kitchen cabinets, several coffee tables, art work frames, etc. I generally put the first coat on with cheesecloth. The following coats I use a painting pad. Sand between coats and rub out with steel wool using soapy water as a lubricant. I like the results. More importantly, my wife does also.
