Hey all
Anyone here have any experience grinding the hollow on a Japanese plane blade? I have an older specimen that I’ve got nice and sharp, but I want that nice thin flat on ura. I’m familiar and semi-capable with ura-dashi (tapping out), but I don’t think that’s what is needed here. Pic attached.
I have a nice 72” belt grinder with a wheel attachment for grinding hollows on knives, and assume this would work, but I’m a bit terrified of doing it for fear of grinding the hardened steel too thin.
Anyone here ever reestablished the hollow in an old kanna blade?
