Although Record has closed their doors and will not produce vises for us any longer…I hope to discover where I can purchase two (2) new 53E’s. I would consider it a wonderful thing if anyone could direct me to someone, anyone, who might have them.
If you have such information please email me at: [email protected]
Thanks, and be well.

Have you used E-bay? It may take awhile, but eventually they will turn up there.
Search for a "wood vise" and also for a "wood vice", a lot of people can't spell. Put the terms in quotes to avoid a lot of returns that don't apply. You might also search for a "metal vise" using both spellings. Don't include the word "Record" in the search, the seller may not include it in the description. You can set up the searches to alert you with an e-mail whenever something new is posted.
That said, there a number of other good vises being sold, Record's vises weren't especially well designed or well made.

I just saw your answer to a question about Record vises. You said that you didn't think that they were that good and that there are much better ones on the market. Which ones would you reccomend and why.
I also want to thank you for the help you have give me in the past in the magazine as well as for answering this question.

We haven't done a vise review for a number of years so I can't say for sure what the better quality vises are currently. If you go into our archived articles you should be able to find the last review we did.
Researching something else this weekend I discovered that an Indian company, Anant, that has been making copies of Record planes is now making a copy of the Record 53E. It is being sold by Highland Hardware.
