Herewith pictures of this item-surely there is a body out there who knows what it is for?
And now, on preview, I have this question: pic 311 was cropped in the quest of reducing file size-and it has become double the size- what is happening to me?

Looks like the Record version of a Fibre Board Plane. It's similar to the Stanley 193, 194, 195 and 1951 series of planes. A friend of mine gave me set of these. He lives in Hawaii and says back in the day they used to make a sort of lap joint on wallboard with these. The "wallboard" he was talking about was some type of bamboo sheetgood. They would cut a chamfer on both mating edges and overlap them to make a joint.
Tahnks KannaUser,
Your description fits with the appearance of the thing. I don't believe I will need one of those.

If you can't figure out what it is, you don't need it!

Now that I know it's use I know that I don't want it , let alone need it.
However, while I was there I found a trenching tool set, and I am not referring to a spade.
Trenching or drenching? How many sheep you got?

Trenching, as in making grooves across the grain e.g housings for book shelves. It is the industrial version of the dado :must have a heavy duty radial arm type saw.
Sheep???? I come from a cattle country!
If you find yourself in Auckland do not fail to visit Carba-Tec-I did so today, had to leave in a hurry in order to resist temptation in the form of Clifton Veritas Lie Nielsen and the rest. It was an up-lifting experience.
Rarely get to Auckland - spend more time in Malaysia and Singapore each year than in the Pig Island. If I do, I'll be sure to visit Carbatec.
Now, what about that tool-making idea?
MalcolmNew Zealand | New Thinking0.06% of the world's people are Kiwis
Hello Malcolm,
The tool making idea is on back burner until I get the core business off the ground. I have not got to grips with the marketing side yet-hence trips to Akl.
Went back to Carbatec and chatted to the owner. You guessed it-was kind to myself and bought a Veritas 41/2 smoother- will be carrying out some minor mods on Sunday. No I am not mad...
