Does anyone know where I can buy a Record Vise – 52 1/2 ED. I understand that they have been discontinued. I need another one for my shop and can’t seem to find one at the usual sources.

Don't know about the 52 1/2, but Lee Valley has all the Records still in stock that were considered current models when Record was bought out by Rubber-Maid. I think they have from 7" up. Check them out with a click on:

Geeze BJ, you don't ask for much, do you? I remember seeing one listed on Ebay not to long ago, but its gone now. A google revealed this link:

Its a German company (I think) and if you want to deal with the shipping, they claim to have them. Look at the bright side though, you wouldn't have to pay the 16%!!!! EU tax, if you get it shipped to the US.
Wonder if someone is going to pick up where Record left off?
Hi BJ -
Record (Irwin UK) is still in business...Irwin (USA) did not want to continue with the record line.... we've been buying directly from the UK for about a year now.
Having said that - I'm told the tooling has just been shipped from the UK to China... have no idea what'll happen to either quality or price now.

You are pretty specific about the vise you want. Have you or anyone else out there had any experience with Jorgensen vises? How do they compare to Record?
Thanks
Ron H
I have one record vise in my shop - the 53ED. I like it a lot - it's the largest in the Record line. I've used other vises too, and they were very similar. I just prefer the Record. Thanks for your help. I'll contact Lee Valley. Bryan
Ron,
I have the Jorgensen vice ..quick release(works with one hand)...and it works fine. I liked it better than the Record because it has a wood handle. Other than that, there is not much more to say....
You might try the woodcraft stores. They are linked by computer and can check inventory at any of the stores in the us. Or try the order line at the 800 number. They can tell you if any of the stores still have the 52 1/2 ED in stock.
