I am just about to start making a bowl out of a nice chunk of burl redwood. As this is the only piece I’ve got there’s no room to experiment with finishes. Any suggestions?
I would like to achive a hard semi-gloss finish.
Thanks for your ideas!

Anders,
FWIW, I really don't think that there is a non-toxic hard finish out there, though I could be wrong. I suggest using mineral oil. Another issue would be the toxic properties, if any, of redwood. This would be a concern if the wood is "green". Typically, once wood has been dried and finished toxicity is not a problem.
