I was doing a reno job a bunch of years back and part of it was to dismantle a big OLD redwood hot tub and get rid of the debris. The debris was about 4 1/2′ x 2 x about 5 1/2″ FULL thicknesses. Needless to say it went into my shop not the garbage. I’m pretty sure when I sand or plane it down it’ll look like new. I have about fifty lengths or so….I’m moving to a new place and my wife thinks I’m nuts to drag it with me again…..I can visualize real nice out door furnature with it after I reno the house of course which is what I mainly do. Is it worth dragging with me ya think or am I nuts?

Absolute trash. I'll come by and dispose of it for you.
Salvaged old growth redwood (which yours very well might be) goes for about $4 a board foot and up + shipping from California where it seems most of it lives.
Hell, I'd keep it, but my basement also has stacks of flooring from a demolished 17th century Virginia tavern.

P.S. By the way, still looking for a good carpenter.
Hey MArk.....As long as I get into this 322 year old house that needs MEGA amount of work that I think I bought I'll most definatly need help...why?

Sounds like you will need help on your house, but what I said (or tried to) in my post was that I still need help on my house. Spoke to you a couple of times (Rockland County), but sounds like you are and will be too busy for a while. If you do get some time freed up, give me a holler. Thanks anyway.
Glad you're keeping the redwood. Should make some beautiful furniture.

Rumpole, the English barrister of John Mortimer's books refers to his wife (Hilda) as "she who must be obeyed".
The wood is probably great and would be excellent re-use/recycling on it . . . . . but she is your wife. My suggestion would be to make one first for her and then see how she feels!!!
Tell your wife that Forestgirl (SWMBO at this address) votes "Yes" take it with you. IMHO, redwood is precious stuff, and especially when it's been rescued from certain death at the dump.
Offer to make a mirror, or a lamp or some of that furniture for her. She'll love it!
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Dont worry...I only asked just cause I wanted the support...lol...no way was it going in the dumpster. This 322 year old house on 2 acres here on the north shore of LI NY needs , besides mega restoration+++........it needs the property filled with gardens and "redwood" arbors leading into it along with maybe a beautiful redwood bench with a twig backrest....or something along those lines......spose I'll be looking for a bandsaw....Thanks and

Hey Andy;
I just today posted a comment about using the self same stuff in another message thread. You'll *love* this stuff when you plane it our and finish it up. One problem, at least with the stuff I have.
The years of being used as a hot tub impregnated the inner half thickness of the wood with chlorine. I can smell it when I work it. Wouldn't be good stuff to use in making toys for little kids.
Once all the work has been done, finish is on and all, don't notice any smell. Gosh, I've made a mirror frame and stove cover for our RV, tried doing a compound re-sawn stair railing transition for our deck stairs, .... I've got a ton of it and it's going where ever I go.
If you get outvoted on moving it, let me know. I'll send you my address and pay the shipping to have it delivered here! (grin)
