I have a brand new redwood picnic table and would like to protect and keep its finish longer. What products are available for every day use and exposed to fog, rain and satlwater environment yet is durable.

Hi Hansfraun.
The easiest finish for redwood is none at all. That's the great thing about it; it is rot resistant and can withstand the weather without a finish. however, leaving it natural will cause it to turn grey in short time.
With a little more effort you can apply a clear oil-based finish like any of the deck sealer products available at your local paint supply store or big box home center. You will have to re-apply an oil finish every few years to keep it up.
If you're interestied in a bullet-proof finish that will last many years, check out this article we published a few years back. It is more complex than the above options, but it will give you more protection than any other method. It is comprised of an epoxy sealer followed by a series of marine varnish top coats.
