Greetings: I am looking for recommendations for good reference books on repairing old furniture. I have several books on finishing, but they only touch on small repairs and minor finish damage. I have acquired some large old pieces of furniture (family heirlooms, not valuable antiques) and would like to make them usable, but unsure how to deal with old glue joints and repairing damaged veneer, solid legs, broken drawers, etc. Any recommendations are appreciatiated, or I will bore you all with step by step questions.

Stan,
I can highly recommend a VCR tape on the subject: Repairing Furniture, by Bob Flexner. GP
You might want to take a look at "The Weekend Refinisher" by Bruce Johnson. It's a practical guide to repairing and refinishing (or restoring) furniture, written with good organization and enough anecdotes to make it fun to read. Paperback, $10.00 about 8 years ago when I picked it up.
I have a friend named Ed that does this very thing for a living. He might even be lurking around right now. He has a shop in Santa Rosa, Ca. Would you like to touch bases with him. He's really a great person and willing to offer a lot of advice if he likes you. He's a little shy until after the second beer but I think I can talk him into giving you a few pointers.Steve - in Northern California
Hi Steve :) Was your message meant for me or for Stan? :) Just checking!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
f_g, that was meant for Stan, but I can't introduce you to him also if you'd like. I thought he was a member of this forum but he's not. I'll try to get by his shop on Monday and see whats up. Steve - in Northern California
Hi Steve, thanks for the clarification -- felt like I had missed something there for a second. Sounds like he'd be a good person for Stan to meet. Hope he stops by these boards some day. :)
