I have been asked to refinish a solid wood front door. I plan to remove the door & strip the old finish off (the door has some carving work) using Citrustrip. I can have the door removed only for one day at a time therefor I will replace the door
after the striping process & do the finish work the following week end. My ? is, what to refinish with? Would Varnish be appropriate? We live in the Northwest so the door does get much weather exposure. Brush it on or???????? Thanks

Paint is best, but if you want a clear finish use marine-grade spar varnish.
*Thanks Jed for the info. Dale
*Citristrip will take 24-48 hours to strip completely. I would use something hotter if time were a factor. Marine spar is good, but we use either PolycoatII or Minwax polyurethane. Have used both on outdoor furn. left out yearround in Portland, Or. and the Poxycoat was on rattan. This was 4 years ago and cust. reports finish still in great shape.Good luckBob Dinglerwww.craftmanannex.com
