Top and front view, legs are 1 1/2″ square, dowel is 3/8″.
Is it acceptable to glue in blocks (red wedge shapes) if the long grain is oriented parallel to that of the legs? They would be quite well glued to the leg, would screws be necessary at all? Picture below, its just a bit faint.
Thanks

A corner block with a screw down the rear of the leg would be far stronger.
Thanks, do you mean something like this?
Exactly !
What Gulfstar said.
Another approach for a removable leg is like in this drawing where the interior corner of the leg has a couple of threaded inserts into a 45 degree flat section the height of the apron and the corner block between the opposing aprons is attached via floating tenons (dominoes work great if you have them). Key is to leave a gap between the corner block and that "flat" on the leg so you can tighten with a bolt into the insert without bottoming it out. In the case of larger DR tables it is great to have removable legs!
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, the legs on this project aren't removable though, I was just wondering if there would be any long term problems with a fully glued in corner block with vertically oriented grain.
You can buy a standard metal bracket
made just like that for table legs.
They're made to fit in a groove of the stretchers
