I remember watching that airplane and the 2nd tower. I remember the fear not knowing what happened to my sister at the Pentagon for about 6hrs. The joy of finally speaking with her and at the same time the sadness for all the others. Give an extra hug & kiss to those you love today and keep in mind life is fragile.

I will never forget.
For some reason I was up early that morning watching my old friend, Charlie Gibson, on GMA. The first plane had just hit and they were trying to make sense out of what had happened. I should have been running out the door as soon as I realized what was going on but I was transfixed by the whole event. My normal in-time was 4pm those days and that must be the reason I stayed rooted to the TV. About the time the towers started to collapse I got a call from scheduling... "you are on your way in, right?" "of course" I said. "waddaya think?" and I broke away from the TV and ran. By the time I got to work the feeds were coming into our server by the boatload. There was so much video being recorded and all of it so dramatic that it was overwhelming. When the people started jumping we didn't realize what we were looking at at first, then the word came down, try not to air falling bodies if we could help it. It was a long sad day, as were those to come, and now we seem to remember NY and the Pentigon but let us not forget the guys over PA charging the cockpit after yelling "LETS ROLL"
The flag in my front yard is at half staff today, as is my heart.
Low Heart
My heart is at low today too. Not only for the innocent blood spilled nine years ago but also for the amount of progress (human betterment) we we made since that horrible day.
Best wishes,
Metod
I was uploading a photo of a William and Mary Low Boy to the Knots gallery when I first heard of the attack. At that time it was just the first plane. Just minutes later I heard of the second strike, which of course dispelled any doubt of an accident. I and the driver from Craters and Freighter, who was here to picked up the Low Boy, watched the second tower fall. Oddly my most significant memory of the day, was coming out of Lowe's around 5:00 PM and seeing/hearing an F-16 from Wright-Patterson break the sound barrier. I never thought I'd see the Air Force directly defending the air space over my home.

defending the air space over my home
I live in the DC area, Northern VA, and for the first time in my life I saw circular contrails. Couldn't figure it out until someone told me that AWACS were on station.
