Here is the scenario….Old table top was stained w/ a mocha brown oil based wood stain. Since that I have decided to sand it down, put some walnut inlays in it and re-finish it. I am not sure what type of wood it is but it is very light in color.
I have sanded it down to remove most of the stain. What is left in the dark grain that was filled in by the old stain and I am trying to remove it.
Is there any chemical that would pull this dark grain out so that I can have an even color surface to work with?
Or am I stuck with more sanding?

buildthis,
I would put some stripper on the surface, let it work and then wipe it clean with a grey scotch pad. If all the color didn't come out, apply a little more stripper and this time use a brass brush to lightly scrub the loosened color out of the pores. Be sure and work in sections. It will make your life easier.
When complete wash the stripped surface well with denatured alcohol and dry it as you go.

what type of stripper due you recommend to remove oil based wood stains?
ZipStrip. Use gloves and glasses when using it. as it is methylene chloride and will burn your skin .
