I’m trying to find a way to remove fire soot that has embedded in a set of oak furniture. Sanding only seems to get so much. Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried a card scraper?
If you can't remove all of the soot from the pores, you might try to conceal it by applying pore filler. Shellac is great at sealing in the smell of smoke.
Good luck,

Are you refinishing it? Use stripper to remove the finish. If the smell is still there then seal it with the shellac as suggested.
Or have you washed it?

I tried some stuff from Jamestown Distributors for cleaning outdoor Teak furniture, doesn't say not for other woods, it cleaned so fast and easy it was amazing. Might be worth a try. KDM

KDM,
Very likely based on Oxalic acide, in which case, straight Oxalic acid (available in powered form) may be just as effective, and may cost less.
