   Doc:

   Thanks for the vote of confidence,however working on old furniture is not my strong point. The first idea that comes to mind is to try a chlorine based

   bleach.

   I am certain that someone more qualified will pick up on this and will be able to help with your problem.

   same question just below under bleaching walnut in finishing. Oxalic acid is what you're after.

   Black stains occur when the moisture actually gets into the wood fibers :-( as opposed to white stains, which are in the finish only.  Bummer.  Hope the OA works for you.
