Hey all, a couple years ago I was fortunate and some one gave me a beautiful Stickly Dining room table. It’s the nicest piece of furniture in my house! (except for the couplepieces I made 🙂 ) As much as I ask people to use trivets etc when putting hot food on it they think Im overreacting. Well, my brother put a pizza box with hot pizza down on it and left it for an hour or so. of course it left a big white spot, no bubbles or anything in the finish. . It has gotten slighltly better with time but is still there and still bothers me. I have no idea how to fix this, I have no idea what Stickley uses for finish these days. The table is about 10 years old and is QS white oak. Is there anything I can do without totaly refinishing the top? Thanks in advance for your help!

I'd take a paper towel and dampen with denatured alcohol and wipe across the white area. You aren't trying to get the surface wet, just apply a almost immediately evaporating sheen of the alcohol. It may take several passes, but let it fully evaporate before wiping again. The finish is undoubtedly some form of lacquer. Even NC lacquer shouldn't be damaged by this gentle wiping with alcohol, though if made in the past 10 years, the finish may be a catalyzed lacquer, even less likely to be damaged by the alcohol.
Adding to what Steve said: the white spot is probably moisture trapped under the finish. The alcohol wipe will draw the moisture out through rapid evaporation. The finish will be left unchanged, only the pizza moisture will be withdrawn.
Thanks Steve and Sapwood!
Yeah thats pretty much what i was going to try, however I figured it's best to check first. I actually tried to address the first post to Steve cause hes the "finish guy" but couldnt figure out how to do that. Thanks again and I'll let you know how it works!

If you need suggestions about what to do to your brother, we may be able to help with that, too. ;-)
