My cherry mission dining table was purchased as a floor model. It has a few scratches in the top that I’ve resigned myself to living with. But there are also a few spots, roughly hand-sized, that have a shiny appearance as compared to the relatively matte remainder. These spots and a few others have a bit of a rough texture that appears to be the finish rather than the wood. The store personnel suggested that someone hadn’t done a good job of wiping off the excess after oiling the table.
I recently tried doing some maintenance by wiping the table down with Watco Danish oil and following that with a paste wax. From what I’ve gleaned from this board, I may not have waited long enough to apply the wax (4-6 hr.s). And this did not take care of the shiny and rough spots.
I’d appreciate the board’s help with what to try next. FWIW, I’m willing to live with the existing scratches, but I’d like to get the shiny and rough spots in the finish evened up. Thanks.

Contact the manufacturer of the table and ask what they used as a finish on the table. Ask them also, how you can correct it.
Most "oil finishes" are really and oil/varnish finish. If it was not carefully wiped down during the finishing process, then what you describe can result. Unfortunately, something could have damaged the tabletop while it was on display also.
