My daughter dropped a glass on a lacquered table top and it removed a chip the size of a dime near the edge. The wood is not damaged. The table is an expensive piece of furniture. Luckly, the piece has a distressed look ( the color is not the most even, there simulated worm marks, and its has like droplets of a darker stain here and there. The finish appeared to chip right down to the wood. How can I fix this.
Thanks Ray

I might try building up the finish with a brush on laquor (use a small brush to add finish just where the chip is). The, use a product called amalgamator. Somone else was talking about it, you should do a search on it in the finishing forum. It will even out the finish after you build up the missing part
*Ray,Bud's on the right track. Use an artists brush & a brush on lacquer (Deft, for example). Build it up until it's slightly higher than surrounding area. Give it 3 - 4 days to dry. The with a felt backed sanding block sand with the following grit wet/dry papers, in the following order: 400, 600, 1000, 1200. I'd sand wet, with a drop of soap in the water. Rinse after each sanding & wipe with a damp soft rag. Tehn finish with an automotive scratch remover, then an automotive paste wax. Turtle wax has both in one product. You could use an amalgamtor which will redissolve some existing finish, but unless you're experienced with it this can cause more problems than it solves.Good Luck, Bob
