I’ve got some nice, solid-wood chairs that were a wedding present. Commercial built so I’m assuming a sprayed lacquer finish. They’ve acquired a few scratches and I want to repair them. I’ve never repaired anything like this before. I like the idea of shellac sticks because I’ll get the color and the shiny finish in the same step. I don’t like the idea of heating up and applying. Also, I’m certain that there is no stick out there that’s going to be the right color.
Can I take shavings off two or more sticks and mix with alcohol to get the right color? I’m thinking a real heavy cut and I could apply that directly to the scratches. I’ve always been an optimist. Any chance at all this will work?
