I have a question for all my fellow planeaholics. I have recently started to buy used planes and have gotten my self a very nice old Union Hand plane a #4. But in the course of cleaning an tuning it the Depth adjuster broke at the pivot point and i was wondering if any one had advice on how to re attach it. I dont plan on selling this plane so i am not worried about an ugly fix, I plan on putting this plane to good use. I have tried super glue and it works for a while except it breaks when i try to draw the blade back.
Any advice on what i can do or where i can find a replacement part?
Thanks
Hrant

If you cant find one, it shouldnt be too difficult to manufacture one from a piece of brass. I assume this is the typical spur shape. If so, leave the waste at the open end and do as much shaping as possible before removing the waste Thate will give you a way of holding it in a vise.
First cut to make will be to drill the centre so the pressure of the drill doesn't distort the sides. Whole job could be done with three coarse and three finishing files (small fltat file with a safe edge, round file for the corners at the 'neck' of the spur and triangular file to get into the tight spaces.
