Hello everyone,
I have a few wood chisels that are in need of new handles. These are the socket type. Short of making my own, can anyone give me a source for replacements ?
Thank you all,
Jpat

Short of making your own--no. Each variety will have sockets that differ to some extent, so it is unlikely these are items which could be stocked. The lastest issue of FWW has an article on exactly how to make these handles.
Steve, In the event you opt to make new handles, save the old ones for future reference, as not all the 450's have the same tapers and widths. I've turned plenty of socket chisel handles by referencing their original tapers. If (by any chance), you have lost or misplaced a handle, grease up the socket and melt some wax into the socket. When cooled, a gentle knock on the side of the socket will dislodge it. Also a bit of warming will make it easier.as well. Steinmetz.

jpat,
I'm not sure about other sources but Lie Neilson does offer the long handles for their chisels...$7.50 each. Maybe they offer the short handles too...
There is a guy, from Canada I think, on Ebay who does Stanley 750 and 720 handles that look excellent. I would search Stanley 750 and 720 over a couple weeks and I am sure you will find him at some point.
The other is to check any chisel that looks like a new handle and it may be the same seller who has made the handle.
I haven't bought any from him, but if I were in the market I would probably give him a shot based on what I see in the photos.

Hello jpat,
Try looking on ebay - the seller's name is View Imagejake1004wood and he sells new replica Stanley 750 and 720 style chisel handles complete with leather washers. The last group of 4 handles sold for $24.15 USD plus $5.00 USD for shipping. He always has chisels and handles for sale.
I looked into making some for myself from some ash shorts in the shop, but I have no lathe and when all factors were considered - it was easier to by them.
Good Luck.
Bob
