Replacement knives for Jet jointer
I have a Jet JJ-6CSX 6-Inch jointer and need a set of replacement blades. The Jet branded blades are $59.99 for the set of 3 at Woodcraft–even higher at Amazon. But Freud blades, which appear to be the same size (6″ x 5/8″ x 1/8″) are available for about $25 from a number of vendors. Anyone have experience making this blade substitution?
Thanks for your help
Bob

If you try 'em and don't like them, I'll pony up for my Jet.

I have the same jointer and the first time I took my knives to the woodworking store, I was determined to get a second set of knives to minimize downtime. They had the set of Freud knives (probably the same ones you are looking at) at about the same price. Bottom line, they are as good or better than the ones that came with the jointer.
I picked up an Old Boice-Crane 6" jointer and installed Freud knives, as the size was correct, and have no regrets at all. They hold an edge well.
