Hello all, recently I ordered a replacement upper wheel for my old craftsman 12″ band saw which was warped. When I got the replacement wheel it came with new bearings. The problem i am running into is the replacement wheel is slightly thicker in the middle of the wheel where the bearings are located. Because it is thicker in the middle it no longer fits the guide assembly flcrum. The shaft of the guide assembly fits through the new wheel and bearing but i can no longer get the retaingin ring which keeps the wheel from falling off the guide assembly fulcrum onto the guide assembly. The groove on the shaft of the guide assembly for the retaining ring is no longer visible. Any suggestions?

Without seeing it I would say perhaps getting a new shaft would be an option. Since the wheel is thicker then most likely they made a design change so the new shaft should be longer. Another option would be to take the shaft and wheel to a machine shop and have them turn a new retaining ring slot if there is enough shaft sticking out. They might have some other ideas if they see it. Might still be cheaper to try the new shaft though.
thanks rick, i ordered one from sears, i just hope that the new shaft is the right length,
