replacement Porter-Cable router 690, Type 5 base housing
I own a Porter-Cable 90690 router. Unfortunately, the router dropped out of the base under a router table and carved up the inside of the base. I own a brand-new plunge base but would like to purchase a fixed base housing. I use this router a lot.
Please advise. My understanding is that PC is no longer making this router and not supporting it. Thanks.

Seems like you can get one for around $100 on ebay. I would sell you mine but I still use it on occasion.
Thanks.
erplacementparts.com shows the brand new bare base housing (model 1001) that fits the 690 motor as in stock for $26. I don't know if the other hardware on your old housing will transfer over or not though.

Wow thanks. I have so many old porter cable tools.
Thanks Bobr2. Looks like perhaps a good fit. Not a bad price.
Bobr2,
I just received a shiny new base housing - and ALL my hardware transferred over without a hitch. I did have to shave off two small tabs next to the threaded holes for the handles (must be a stop on other models), but with a soft aluminum casting, this was a breeze.
Thanks for the great advice! BTW, I left the base housing in my shopping cart for a few days (the shipping cost is a killer!), so even though I had signed up for 10% off if I got on their mailing list, several days later they came back with a 20% offer. That took the sting out of shipping and I hit the Order button. :)
Glad to hear it! For some reason it always seems to hurt me more when I lose a tool where the motor still works but some other component has broken. I don't know why but it does.
Of course! Usually it's a tool that works well, well...it used to. For me it stems from my family upbringing. There's something engrained in me that strives not to waste things - and especially if they have value. Tools are near the top of that list. My parents grew up in the depression - which pretty much says it all.
Same here on the depression parents. We were raised to never waste anything.
This is a turning point for ereplacement parts, at least it seems to me. Ereplacement only dealt with original manufacturers parts. As a result most critical parts for things like Porter Cable or Delta came up as " obsolete and unavailable". There are enough PC and Delta machines out there ( millions, I would think) to warrant an aftermarket production. This base appears to be an after market product.
I can't say myself. It lists as an OEM part for Porter Cable and Dewalt. My interpretation is that the same (or compatible) base has been reused for Dewalt and thus may still be in production. I'm not that familiar with the Dewalt router line. I've become a Bosch man myself since PC stopped prodution of routers and have been very happy with Bosch routers. I tend to reach for my 1617EVS before the old Porter Cables.
I have 2 PC routers I stocked up on bearings, switches, and brushes for both. Hopefully I won't need much more than that.
