Hi All!
My name is Andy and I am new to this forum and pretty much new to woodworking. I make miniature cities and birdhouses in my spare time but other than that, I have very little knowledge and experience working with wood.
I recently acquired a gem of a machine that actually used to be my grandfathers. It is a Makita 16″ Resaw Bandsaw, Model 2116. I am pretty sure it is from late 70s or early 80s and is in awesome condition. I was wondering if anyone has any info on this bandsaw, or any knowledge resawing logs, more specifically resawing logs into veneer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I look forward to making some new friends and learning as much as I possibly can.
Thanks!
-Andy

Hi Andy !,
Sorry no one has responded to your first post.
Welcome to Knots.
From the first day you posted I knew exactly the machine you were referring to and an article here in FWW about it. I did a quick search and came up with nothing and was sure someone who owned the machine would get to you eventually.
Nada huh ?
Sooooo . . .
this morning before coffee I jumped on it. Searched and searched the online mag index here.
Nuthin.
Then had some coffee.
Didn't help find the article (but I can speak now ). That's something.
Then my partner, known here as Queenmasteroftheuniverseandbabybunnytrainer found which issue I was thinking of on line else where ( isn't she marvelous ) and I dug it out of my collection of PAPER issues. It is . . .
Fine Woodworking May/June 1983 Issue No 40
page 84 and 85.
Title of article : Japanese Resaws Two Small Machines With Big Blades by Rich Preiss
Makes a person question the value of the online membership or at least the usefulness of the Magazine index and search engine.
There is probably somebody here willing to sell a back issue to you.
PS: I am taking photos of the pages and will post them in a jiff. I will now switch computers and relog in so I can post photos I took of my magazine pages.
PPS: here are photos. Not great . I took some in brighter light and they came out dark but they may be easier to read once I fix them so more to come. I hope you can read one or t' other.
Be sure to use the enlarge button once you click on one of the photos. The enlarge button looks like a white box with arrows pointing out. You can enlarge still further using your key board commands or pull down menu but you probably already are aware of that.
Please post photos of your miniatures or other work if you can. Or your saw and the work it is doing.
roc,
I'm sorry you weren't able to find the article online. Sadly, there are many articles which we do not have the rights to publish online. This could be one of them. As for the online index, it's an index of what's online, not of the entire magazine. Here's is a link to a webpage where a fellow has a complete index: http://stremen.home.xs4all.nl/fww.html. At the moment, that index is about 3 issues behind.
Just as an FYI (not trying to sell you anything): The archive DVD does have the complete contents of FWW (ads included) for every issue and is searcheable by keyword, author, title, etc. Right now, they're selling it for $75, and yearly updates after the initial purpose are at a discount. Link: http://store.finewoodworking.com/type/magazine-archives.html.

Hi Andy. I have found Makita Band Saw Manuals at http://www.bandsawmanuals.com . I am not quite sure if they have the Makita Model 2116. Just check if they have it.
Thanks for the post! I was also searching a manual for my makita band saw. I came across thread and downloaded the manual from the site.
