There are several choices..
1. Have someone do it for you.
2. Rip it down to a workable size and then biscut joint it back together after the resaw.
3. Plane it to the desired width
4. leave it as is and find something else to do with it.
5. Give it to me.
Seriously, I just had to make a similar decision with some old growth clear heart redwood. I took option #2 but now that the ripping is done, I've found something different to do with it so I won't be resawing after all.

this table top is to be used in the restoration of a very expensive tall case clock. i need two pieces of this table top hence the resawing delima. also the table that the top came from is 200 yrs old and was worth 1200$ so i have soom major concerns to mull over be for i act
Yes you do have some major concerns. I would take it to a well equiped shop, (tools and personnel) and have it done. This way, you minimize the risks you've pointed out.Steve - in Northern California
Your best bet would be a bandmill I think. Call woodmizer & they could put you in touch with someone in your area who's got one
i would either take it to a small sawmill or a cabinet shop. the sawmill that i go to has a bandsaw with a 48" resaw capacity, so a table like yours would be no problem.
