I am restoring a #8 smoothing plane and am curious about how to flatten the bottom of the frog and also the area where the frog sits on the plane body.
Thanks to all for your help

Rollie Johnson's series on restoring vintage hand planes has a video on this, using automotive valve seating compound.
Here's the link: https://www.finewoodworking.com/project-guides/handplanes/tuning-up-handplane-parts-ep-4
THANKS!! I HAD WATCHED THIS VIDEO BEFORE AND HAD FORGOTTEN HOW COMPREHENSIVE IT IS.
I restored a type 11 Stanley #4 and a Stanley #7 using Rollie's videos. Awesome instruction!
Don't go crazy. You can ruin a plane pretty quick if you screw it up. If it's an older plane it likely doesn't need much.
Yeah, slow and easy. Thanks
Before you start, color one side of the contact surfaces with a sharpie and rub them together to show the high spots.
Good idea, Thanks
