Restoring handles on Japanese chisels rescued after a flood
We recently had a major flood in our Canadian community. I was gifted several IYOROI chisels that were found post flood. I’ve addressed the rust damages. I am looking for advice on how to fix the shrinkage sustained by the handles after they were dried from the flood. The striking ferruleis loose to the point it easily spins.
suggestions welcome. Thank you

I would just try to reset then there are lots of videos on utube to show how this is done and you may want to throw a coat of shellac on them as well cheers and good luck.
The hoop at the striking end often arrives loose from the maker. It is intended that the owner peen the end of the handle to keep the hoop on.
I looked at the chisels after your post. The chisels have previously been peened (to set the hoop?). I have re-peened a couple of the chisels and appears to be working. Thank you.
MuskokaLane: I found some good utube info on setting the hoop on the chisels. Thank you.
