We have an old White/singer machine complete except for the leather around the wheels It is for sale . Cheap for you , we are in B.C.
Barney
Is your cabinet restorable? If it isn't I would contact sewing machine dealers in your area. They take trade ins and you can probably pick one up pretty cheap if they have one. Also watch garage sales and the classified ads in your local newspaper. I've seen some nice old treadle machines for $100 at garage sales.
I worked for Singer many years ago, ever 3 months the district manager would come to town and we would hire a man with a dumptruck and a sledge and destroy the heads and haul of our excess tradeins. The cabinets went to the dump. We usually got rid of 100 to 125 machines.
If you have any mechanical question about the machine let me know I will help if I can.
God Bless

Thank you for your Info Les , what I would like is working plans for the building of a new cabnet. Is there a any place one could search for that.
I sure don't Barney, there was a place you could buy a new treadle sewing machine, Lehmans catalog. Out of curiosity I was checking prices and general information about them and I believe they said at this time they couldn't promise a delivery date because they lost their manufacturer and was searching for a new one. If your cast iron is still good can you use the old cabinet for a pattern?

I suppose that is my best alternitive, Just bite the bullit and do my best. Evry thing is so deterorated that it will be hard to get good measurments. I'll let you know when I do get it completed. Wish me luck
Barney, Check the Lehmans catalog. In addition to complete machines they were also selling cabinets. You'll probably have to call them to figure out if thier cabinets will work. If you have to build your own and can't get measurement from the old cabinet, check out antique shops or museums until you find your model. If you ask they'll probably let you measure up the cabinet. Good luck
Thanks for the info. I'll see what I can find, again thank you
I have my Mothers Singer treadle machine, Its in pretty sad shape also, my oldest brother is 76,he cut his teeth on one of the drawers Really you can see where he chewed on it. My mother was an excellent seamstress, she made most of her clothes and a lot of shirts for me and my two brothers. Our only funeral home in town would bury infants of indigent families free, my Mother would make the shrouds to bury them in. Another lady in town that couldn't sew would buy the material and bring it down to my Mother. I remember the sadness in my mother when she did this, a lot of the time she didn't even know the family she was sewing for. That was a different time Barney.
When I saw your post it bought back memories. Again if I can help let me know.
Gods Peace

My wife collects these things. As with just about everything else, there's an internet community of like-minds souls for this topic. http://www.treadleon.net is the place to start.
