Hi, I am installing 1″ Horton Brasses hinges on a 3/8 thick door on a Grandfather clock. The screw tip went through the front of the door so I have to back them out, patch and user shorter screws. I need to fill the screw holes with something that will act as fresh wood and hold a shorter screw. Thanks.

Tooth pick and a dab of glue. Understandable if you wanna be fancier, but all you need to do is reduce it to a pilot hole.
I've used 8 million toothpicks and dabs of glue over the years, on everything from jewelry boxes to entry doors.
Nip the sharp point off so it doesnt go all the way through and make the blowout worse and/or have white spots in probably a different colour wood. Hard to match if you have end grain poking through face grain. 3/8th isn't very thick.
Wooden match sticks also work if you need something a bit bigger.
If you have a lathe and some leftover project stock you can turn your own toothpick for a perfect match!
Toothpick it is then, I was "over-thinking" epoxy or something. The door is actually 5/8, not 3/8. Thanks all, I love this forum. :)
Little holes toothpick, big holes a golf tee. You can also rebore the hole and insert a piece of dowel.
