Has anyone tried Ridge saw blades? They had a booth at a local woodworking show. They seem to get high ratings from the woodworking magazine tests. Any opinions would be helpful.

Which mags? I don't remember seeing the name, and I'm a magazine junkie!

Chris, I bought a Ridge blade for my miter saw a few years ago at a ww show. When I finally got around to putting on the saw I was totally amazed with the results, At the next show I got their combo blade for my table saw- again I was amazed. The next show I bought their blades for every use I had-including the 8" dado- and I continue to have great results. Over the last 30 or so years I have tried just about ever blade on the market and I have never found any to compare with the results I get with Ridge. The guy you see at shows is the owner of the company, he and his family and a few employees do everything. They're located in New Jersey and their goal is to remain a small niche company with most of their sales coming from shows and mail order. I have seen small ads in most of the ww magazines but their advertising budget seems to be rather small. Good luck with your blade. Steve (Doc)
Is there a way to contact them?

Is this what you are looking for?

Thanks!

Thanks to eveyone that put in the good word for Ridge. I have seen them advertised, but would be hesitant to use them without feed-back. You have provided that and I will give them a whirl next time I need to replace one of several tooth counts I use for various jobs.

Doc, I'm only seeing a 40-tooth combo blade as far as 10" tablesaw blades go. Do they make other 10" blades?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

That's what I see also. It would be nice if they had a dedicated rip blade. I'm one of those that believe that "one blade won't do it all", not as well as a dedicated 24, 60 and 80 tooth blade anyway.

Hi Sarge, how are ya? It would be interesting to know the evolution of their product line. Wonder if the router bits might have come first? The saw blade is obviously going up against the Forrest WWII blade. Also interesting that they're staying so low-key marketing-wise. Sounds like their blades are great, which means they could enter the market in a bigger way if they developed the right advertising and marketing approach.
I can understand wanting to stay small though -- that's kinda my downfall when it comes to business. I have no desire to be big. They seem to do most of their marketing via the WWing shows, similar to the way the GripTite guy. Seems like that could lead to the disappearance of a good product when the developer gets tired or passes on to the great Workshop in the Sky....forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

I can understand the small part. I know a gentleman that does small item chroming (reproduction cars, handles, mouldings, etc.) on the side. He doesn't dare advertise and if you give him something to chrome, you expect to wait about 8 to 12 weeks to get it back. He's got more work than he can handle with "word of mouth". He does excellent work and you don't mind the wait. With the EPA deal on toxic fumes on chrome, there aren't too many left in the chroming business. You could make a fortune if you don't mind fighting goverment "red tape". Most don't anymore.
I'm sure they have their reason. Sounds like you or I should call to get the Catalog Bob mentioned and just ask> ha..ha..

Forestgirl,
I recently purchased some planer knifes from Ridge Tool (the knifes weren't manufactured by Ridge by the way). In the order, they enclosed there latest full catalog..Many, many more items than listed on the web site, catalog must be 80 to 90 pages.
This is not an endorsement of their products, but you might want to check if the item you might be interested in is manufactured by Ridge or someone else..
Chris,
Ridge Carbide Tools makes blades as good or better than Forrest ...for less money. I have not used their router bits. I think FWW did the blade comparison years ago. In any case it ws done by one of the big mags, and they rated extremely high. As was already mentioned, they have a small advert budget as eveidenced by FG not recognizing them, but maybe "Ridge" instead of "RCT" threw her off.
Mike
Ridge was started by and is run by folks who left Forrest. Their blades get good press and the one I used worked very well.
I would like to thank everyone for the help.
Chris
Thank you for bringng to our attention the availability of quality blades such as Ridge. I was not aware of them although I am also a woodworking magazine junkie ( I subscribe to 4 or 5 of them, reading them leaves little time for woodworking...LOL).
John Cabot
I've been using their blades for years and love them.
