Any opinions on Ridgid’s 6″ jointer, model JP0610? It looks like a good machine and the price is right.

I still have mine in the box and hope to open it soon.

bought it 3 months ago and i love this machine! fairly easy to assemble, joints are glassy smooth and the customer service is fantastic - my blades were initially chipped but one call later i had new jointer blades sent for FREE. why spend more money on a fancier machine?
The Ridgid jointer typically gets good reviews and comments from owners. Unlike the Ridgid contractor saw, there's no problems I'm aware of. It's very similar to other wel proven designs from Sunhill, Bridgewood, Grizzly, Jet, Woodtek and more. Some people say it sits a bit lower to the ground, but that could be easily changed if it's an issue....might even be an asset for some.
I have the pre-orange one. Well, barely pre-orange but grey none-the-less :-)
I bought it based on reputation and "guess-about-it" value. It really does do an OK job, but there are some "issues". For example, the tables are on the short side.
There's just _no_ getting around this point; those infeed/outfeed tables do be on the shorter side of being a whole lot of likeable. (Had it occurred to me that such is the case at purchase time, I doubt that I'd have bought it ... I'd probably have invested in a *good* high-dollar hand plane instead.)
It's also a roaring pain in the ... * to set the knives. I don't have a $50+ dedicated jig to help me out here and it's just plain tough to come close to getting those knives set close to being close. (I'm not really sure that the fancy-dan Shop Fox jig(s) would make life any easier/better.)
I do like that it's one heck-of-a-heavy machine. I also like that it can be scooted about on a mobile base :-) I do not like the short tables.
It's not exactly tidy when it comes to chip ejections. It's not even consistent, for that matter. It is fun, though, to reach in and grag a few hand-fulls of "whatever' :-)
It's a decent machine ... but it is not worth spending estra to write a letter home when compared to others in the price range. Oh, yeah... all in all I like it. (and you can insert "neck" into the ...* space above :-) :-) )

Just a thought.. I put two roller stands out from the infeed table that I leveled to the table.. LOL.... Didden't work.. But I had fun trying. It was not a problem for me because I didden't have room for a 76 inch jointer table anyway..
