I noticed in a trade magazine I get (Tools of the Trade) that Ridgid is going to intruduce a new line of portable power tools the ad says 30 diffrent models.. hope there not going to be that ugly orange they picked for there new line of bench tools..IM guessing these portable tools are going to be Ryobi in a diffrent color..soo keep your eyes peeled at your local Home depot..

I saw them @ home depot today. They are an ugly orange silver combination. My hunch was they are the same as ryobi/craftsman and now its ryobi/craftsman/rigid.
They look bulky and awkward. Perfect for the DIY/Homeowner.

LMAO, thanks now I have to clean my beverege out of the keyboard:)aka Steve
They seem to be sourced from all over the world. For instance, the 5" ROS is made in China, and the 6" ROS is made in Germany. My local Borg only has a display with example tools chained to it. They don't have any for sale.
TD,
The real problem with these sorts of things is not so much who makes them, ( I would suppose that, if they want to or have to, Ryobi is capable of making just as good a product as anybody) but rather to what extent Rigid/Home Depot is involved in the manufacturing/inspection process and what standards of quality they expect. One can buy a stove or refrigerator from Sears that will stand up to or even exceed other products costing several times as much. On the other hand, they also quite a few products, including, unfortunately, tools that aren't worth the powder to blow them......
Guess only time will tell. Of course, by then the model probably will be discontinued or the manufacturer will have changed!

Jeff: Only time will tell how the new Ridgid power tools are going to hold up & be welcomed by the General public..I for one is not a big fan of Ryobi power tools & were all aware that the same company that owns Ryobi is also the one mfg Ridgid soo what does that kinda sorta tell ya.<G>. the only thing Ridgid now has going for them is there name cause Ridgid has or had been a Trusted name in Plumbing & HVAC hand tools..Lets hope they don't mess with them too..

Hey guys,
I messed around with one yesterday. I looked at the 14 volt drill (I now use a dewalt 14 volt). The tool felt pretty good in my hand, the chuck seemed very smooth and had a strong bite. It had a few features I wish my dewalt did; like rubber padding on the battery, and a really nice charger. I also saw a few details missing on most other units like a mesh vent in the batery to help cool it (it was designed to keep dust out as well).
As a remodeler who does about every part of the job (drywall to cabinetry) I use my drill A LOT. I love my drill. Yes, I am also a very sick man. Anyway like the previous poster said, it is really up to HD to ensure the quality of this product. I don't think that I will buy one untill it is reviewed in FHB. On the other hand I am VERY confident that if I buy one and it peters out HD will take it back and sell me another dewalt.
nothing to loose.
