Perhaps you saw my request for info on the Rigid 14″ saw. Based on that feedback, my dad decided not to get one. Now he is interested in the Rikon 14″. ($500)
What’s the scoop on this machine?
Thanks,
Mark

Mark.. I don't have the 14".. Just the 18"..
Strange you should post this because I was just going to post some pictures of a resaw I did on mine.
Jatoba (Brazilian Cheery).. This board was 11.5 inches in width by about 3/4 inch wide by 40 inches long.. I just cut it today.
I am going to make some 'Treasure Boxes' for my 'China' grandbabies for when they get a bit older..
Janka Hardness of this wood is about 2350 (different sources give a some differences but in the ball park) Denser than Teak I think.
I have to admit I did notice the motor slow down a bit if I turned the wood to cut the (sort of straight) line I drew..
The blade is a 1 inch wide LENOX 3 tooth per inch (NOT carbide).
The blade has a few teeth banged up fron a 'crash' I had awhile back when I turned the saw on and forgot to tighten the tension.. DANG!
I hammered the bad teeth down.. (I do strange things)..
Anyway I would think the 14 inch is just a little one of the 18". But who knows.. My local woodcraft store has the 18" but I have not seen a 14" there.. See if you local woodcraft store (If you have one) has one in the stoor to look at.. Same price as you can order over the net I think...
Anyway.. I LOVE MY 18 inch! Search for my other posts on 18" RICON for other Info I posted if you see fit..
Tell 'DAD'.. HAVE FUN!
EDIT:: By the way.. The 'stuff' hanging off the ball-bearings is my mod for easier adjustments.. NOT factory...
EDIT2:: I forgot.. When and if he gets it or most other bandsaws GET a GOOD BLADE.. The ones they send with the saws I think are just used to keep the wheels from rattlin' during shipping...

If you have a woodcraft store near by go look at it. I was impressed with the 18" rikon, but it is a world of a difference to the 14". I'm not saying it's bad by any means, but it is different level of machine. If I get the chance I'll go by the local woodcraft who has one, and give it a look see. I have the 17" Grizzly. You can put the Grizzly and Rikon side by side and they are almost identical. I like the fact that that you have a retailer like woodcraft carrying them and will stand behind them.
Bones,
Thanks, My dad has already looked at the 18" model. He does not want to spend that much - nor does he feel he needs that much of a machine for the type of work he does...Mark

No problem. I know the guys there pretty well. They get a lot of my money. I'll see if I can get a few digital pics for you.
I didn't read the other thread, but have you/he considered the Grizzly G0555?? The reports on this saw are good, and I read yesterday that Suffolk Machinery (Timberwolf blades) is giving it a thumbs-up also. I'm not saying it's better than the Rikon -- Rikon hasn't been around long enough to know -- but it is developing a track record. The G0555 also includes the fence (really irritates me when they make you buy the fence separately).forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
