Just took delivery about 6 weeks ago on the old model when it was on sale. For the price it is decent but not perfect. Some of the manufacturing quality was poor but fortunately fairly easy to fix myself. I haven't had a chance to use it extensively due to weather in New England but what I have tested shows the saw to be well suited for the resawing I want to do. I had about 600 BF of cherry logs sawn to 4/4 thickness (<$200 for all) and want to use it for a number of projects using thin lumber. If the new Rikon is priced right and the quality hasn't suffered, I'd say go ahead with it. You may not want to be first on the block to buy one though.
I am looking for a 14 in. saw. What do you think about the General 90-100 (sheet metal) or the 90-125 (traditional cast iron) machines? I have not seen any reviews on the 90-100.
Find a used Delta and get the Ittura Design catalog (1-888-722-7078) and tune it up. You'll have about $650.00 in it total and it will be better than any new saw for twice the money.
The General 90-125 is a pretty sweet little unit. All the bells and whistles of the more expensive 14" saws but at a resonable price. I have a lot of satisfied customers. One unique feature is that it can also be bench mounted should you so desire. Theres nothing in the base but air.
Have a look: http://www.general.ca/pagetitre/ang/bandsaws.htmlSteve

Steve,
If you had to choose between the Delta 206 and the General 125, which of the two is the better saw? Would you compare the 125 to the delta 14 in. X saw?
Mike
Both saws are excellent choices. I think you get quality from both and I think you get your money's worth from both. My recommendation is to go to a retail outlet and have a look at both. You probably won't be able to try them out but you should be able to give them a good look and make a sound decision from that. You may want to wait until after the holidays, if the stores in your area are anything like mine, we are wiped out of floor stock right now.. I have about two weeks of assembly ahead of me when I get back to work.Steve

Sorry for the late post.. I have a 18 RICON and happy with it.. More than happy with it...
Not sure why they would change it.. Maybe made cheeper?

Nope, more expensive :-). $1,145 now from Toolcenter - whenever they get off the boat - they are taking deposits - reserve yours now! (No price yet from Woodcraft.)
Claims to have a heavier duty trunion (I believe one of the reviews dinged them on this), new blade tension lever and new upper blade guard door. I imagine most of the extra $$ covers material cost increases, like everything else these days.
Happy to hear yours is doing the job for you!
