Generally speaking, when I buy a tool I research it and usually make a good decision. I bought a Rikon 4X36 sanding station and this time…. I made a mistake. The thing didnt last a year. I have a Delta 4X36 and after 15 years of almost every day use its still going. Right out of the box the Rikon was more noisey than the Delta was after a lot of use. The fit and finish on the Rikon was chintzy. In less than a year the idler pully bearing had about 1/8th in play and sounded like a screach owl being raped by a rabid fox! I had been looking at a Rikon band saw in case the one I have now ( Reliant) goes south on me…….not any more!! Once bitten, twice shy………. I bought a 6 year old 6X48 Delta on craigs list for an exceptional price ( with cabinet and casters for $150)….now that is a sanding station!

support?
Have you talked to your retailer or Rikon tech support (I'm assuming they have a service/support station)? I've never used one of their tools, but have read favorable comments from others. You might simply have received a lemon. Every manufacturer produces one occasionally. How (or, whether) they rectify the problem is the more important issue.
Rikon makes a sander?
I have a friend who has a Rikon bandsaw and he loves it. I believe he's had it for a year... maybe two. When I think of Rikon, I think of bandsaws and their lathe - not sanders. I'd love a Oneway lathe, but I don't know if I'd like a Oneway table saw if they made one. Just saying that some brands seem to do some things better than others.
I don't own any Rikon tools directly, but have a Scheppach Tiger sharpening system that's imported by Rikon, and a Cman BS that I believe is made by Richen Enterprises who owns Rikon. My one and only CS experience was excellent. I read a lot of positive comments on their bandsaws, and very few complaints on anything from them.
Talk to distributor or Rikkon Service First
If you haven't discussed this with Rikkon you should before taking your issue to the public.
RIKON Power Tools, Inc. (“Seller”) warrants to only the original retail consumer/purchaser of our products that each product be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date the product was purchased at retail. This warranty may not be transferred.
Also, if you paid with a credit card, most of them will give you up to an additional 1 year coverage. You have to keep the receipt though.

ill say again.right out of the box it looked and sounded like a piece of junk... Its a little over a year old.now what do you think the distributor is going to say???... come on " it s past warranty" will be the reply..... initial impressions mean a lot and no amount of conversation with Rikon would inprove that issue. So I learned a lesson and it cost me $100..oh well
Why Did you keep it then?
Until you make the attempt to have item repaired or replaced, I have no idea what the distributor will say. If it is truly 1 year old on a two year warranty, I could speculate on what he should say.
If it looked that bad brand new then I think you had some responsibility a year a go to do something.
Strange to have a reluctance to return it despite the rather generous manufacturer's warranty. I would suggest that by not even trying to achieve a remedy, you my not have learned as much as you think.

It didn't catch fire though
I bought a Ryobi 4 x 36 belt, 6" disk combo sander. Got it home, out of the box, plugged it in, turned it on and it immediately burst into flames. HD gave me a full refund.
I now have the Craftsman version of the same tool. It works fine.
