Howdy, Y’all,
I read the favorable review of the 18″ bandsaw by Rikon in the latest Fine Woodworking and went to their website to see what else they have. I was quite surprised to see that they make a 10″ jointer/planer for a suggested retail of under $600. Before I get excited and put one in the garage, has anyone used it? Among this group is there a person who has give this tool a workout and who can guide the others as to its potential? It sure would be nice to have a 10″ jointer and even nicer if the jointer and planer could sit in the same footprint in the garage, to save space.
Thanx,
Sarge

I saw the line at a professioal trade show and it looked a bit out of place but still impressive enough. To increase your odds of finding someone who has some Rikon tools contact the manufacturer to see if he can give you some names. It's been my experience that most woodworkers won't buy something new unless their buddy gets one first so it tends to take a long time for new innovations to catch on. Interesting how combo machies are old hat in Europe but still met with skepticism here. Too bad that jointer/ planer doesn't have a slot mortiser attachment like the European combos.
Rick.,
Thanx for the heads up. I did contact Rikon and their word is that the Woodcraft stores will be carrying their line in about 6 weeks. Since there's one just over the county line, I should be able to get a look at it by September. I'll report back if no one else has any experience with it.
Sarge.
Mini Max USA makes three combination Jointer/Planers with an optional mortiser. http://www.minimax-usa.com/j-fs30smart.html
