Not being into turning much, what do you all think of the little Rikon lathe? It can be expanded to a longer bed.
At this point I would expect that I would only use it for minor work (no bowls or such) like small legs or maybe chess pieces (alwas wanted to do a chess set)
So what do you all think of it for a beginner?

I think its a pretty good choice for a begginer if you are doing smaller work but not for bowls.
I AM not a Turner but I have a little Jet and it is usefull when I use it, which is not often. I hear good reports on this tool. For the price HOW can you go wrong? I'd bet you will get the extension before to long!
EDIT: The only reason I do not get a bigger wood lathe is because I'm afraid I get hooked on it and I have enough 'passions'!

I don't expect to become a real turner, I just want it for whan I need to do minor things. But I dont want to spend a few hundred and find out it is worthless or that for 50 more I could have had a XYZ that is much better.
